About the game

White Bees A Tale of the Snow Queen

White Bees is a stop-motion fairy-tale adventure based on Andersen’s “The Snow Queen”. Gerda moves with her ever-busy parents into an old house on Crow Hill and befriends Kai, the boy in the attic. His grandmother calls snowflakes white bees. Splinters of a troll’s mirror pierce Kai’s eye and heart, and a white sleigh carries him off. The grown-ups say he drowned. Gerda doesn’t believe it.

You guide her through the tale, peering into rooms as into a dollhouse. You solve Kai’s riddles, warm a copper coin to thaw a peephole in the frost, give her red boots to the river, cling to Kai’s memory in a witch’s garden where even the diary fades, and creep through a sleeping palace, hiding your lamp from dreams racing along the walls.

The scares are a child’s scares: darkness, creaking stairs, a woman of ice at the window. Nothing cruel — and a song about roses runs through it all.
